The Onera Story

While working at Bain Capital Ventures, Sahil met with countless retail executives lamenting their struggles to keep up with consumer expectations and the changing demands on their physical stores. At the same time, Srinath was working at BloomReach to help retailers yield massive benefits by leveraging machine learning to improve how their products were discovered. Together, they set off to build a company that could dramatically improve the modern retail experience.

Onera is derivative of the Latin word Onerarius, which means to take on burden. And that is precisely what Onera was founded to do - to take on the burden of applying the latest advancements in data science and machine learning to empower retailers to more effectively delight their customers.


Sahil Gupta

Sahil has spent his career as an entrepreneur, management consultant at Bain & Co. working with Fortune 500 companies, and most recently as a founding member of the Silicon Valley operations for Bain Capital Ventures, where he was focused on innovative technologies that enable retail. Sahil received undergraduate degrees in Economics and Systems Engineering, with a focus in Optimization Systems, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Srinath Sridhar

Srinath has focused his career on applying machine learning to solve novel problems. He wrote a patent and built a machine learning model to distinguish products from accessories at Google. Srinath then joined Facebook where he built their first machine learning based search ranking algorithm. He went on to become a member of the founding team and principal engineer at BloomReach. Srinath received his PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
